1. Body, Sense and Beauty

27th of January I just turned 30

So for this special occasion, let me introduce you to some of my most precious inspirations.

I can easily say that Lisa Lyon has been a transformative influence in my late 20’s, showing me a vision of beauty that I resonate with.

ROBERT MAPPLETHORPE (1946-1989)
Lisa Lyon, 1982 for the book Lady Lisa Lyon published in 1983

Lisa Lyon enlarged a vision of womanhood and beauty and became this icon also due to this visual language of perfection that Mapplethorpe crafted in his photographs. Aesthetic is the water that helps society swallow the pill of newness I guess.

She has also a wide influence today, as she infused an image of beauty, strength and muscles into the minds of new generations.+ She was a sensation at the time and influenced many like Kathy Acker (probably will talk more about her later for now I’m in Deborah Levy phase), Acker wrote the essay Against Ordinary Language: The Language of the Body (1992).

What she describe is that sensing intelligence and language of feeling not only emotions but sensations, and what can be build out of sensations ? in pain, in repetition, in effort, in relief and at some point, ease.

Just like tattooing is a chosen intrusion to the body, it may be another building process, feeling pain in a different way and letting go of other pains at the same time. Or just for the fun of little spiky needles leaving a new sense of beauty with yourself, or giving graphic impact to a movement, and so on.

Let’s keep telling ourselves stories with lines and bodies; there are so many things to experience through this morphing process.

Thinking of body language, I can’t resist but tease you for the next drop, which will be about dance and choreography.

+ Thank you for being one of the first readers of my train of thoughts (welcome onboard). Please reach out if you have thoughts, recommendations, or anything you’d like to share, I’ll be happy to read from you.

For now, I’ll leave you with 6 year old me not knowing how to blow candles.
